GLOSSARY

AI pentesting

Using AI agents to probe a website or system for weak spots the way an attacker would, with the owner’s permission.

How does AI pentesting work?

An AI agent, which is an AI system that can run tools and take steps on its own, works through a scope you set. It maps what the site exposes, checks for weaknesses and reports what it finds. The method follows ordinary penetration testing, where evaluators imitate real-world attacks to find ways around a system’s defences.

Web tests commonly follow references such as the OWASP Web Security Testing Guide. A person should review the report, because an AI agent can report findings that are wrong.

Why does AI pentesting matter for a small business?

Attackers can use the same kind of agent against your site without asking. Testing it yourself first shows you what they would find. It also costs less than a full manual test, so it can run more often.

Written permission is not optional. Only test systems you own or are authorised in writing to test. Start with a staging copy and a read-only account.
